The Importance of Rest
The Importance of Rest
We are living in a time of uncertainty and unprecedented change. The pandemic and onset of COVID-19 has touched us all in some way.
This summer is different than our usual. Although we are entering Stage 3 in our economy, we are all still physical distancing, washing our hands and hopefully, wearing our masks.
The need for rest in our culture has typically been underestimated. We are taught that being busy, productive and accomplishing tasks is valued and important; however very few value the importance and need for rest and rejuvenation as part of our daily practice. As many of us practice social distancing the need for rest is even more important for our mental and physical health and wellness.
I invite you to honour your body and mind’s need for rest today and this week, as not simply a luxury to partake in, but an essential need which your body and mind require in order to function.
Research has shown the benefits of rest allow us to repair our body, reduce stress, improve focus and mood, and increase your creativity.
Today, allow yourself to rest and rejuvenate by reading your favourite novel outside in a hammock or comfy chair, daydreaming on your front porch, having a nap or siesta mid-day, taking a social media break, cuddling with a loved one or fur baby, or simply allowing yourself the pleasure of just being, not doing!
You deserve this!
