What can you expect when you book a Cancer Care Counselling session with Amy?
My name is Amy - Cancer Care Counsellor at HopeSpring Cancer Support Centre.
I have been a social worker and therapist for the past 20 years and earned my M.S.W from Wilfrid Laurier University. My passion and much of my clinical work has been in the field of mental health, mindfulness, wellness and trauma.
I love yoga and am a certified advanced yoga and meditation teacher. I studied and had a life-changing pilgrimage throughout India with my best friend in my early 20s. I have discovered that therapy and yoga have a wonderful interconnection of the mind and body.
I love my work. In my free time I enjoy adventures - travelling the world with my husband, spending time with my family and friends, and walking in nature, discovering new trails with our beloved fur baby Bayley.
What you can expect when you book a counselling session with me?
Our centre at HopeSpring is a warm and welcoming environment. When you arrive, you will be greeted with a warm smile and offered a cup of tea, water, coffee and one or our specialty home-made treats, baked by one of our wonderful volunteers.
I will welcome you into my counselling room where I will spend time getting to know you, your background, your story, what strengths and supports you have, and the challenges and obstacles you may be facing in your journey.
We will discuss your goals and wishes for therapy and for your healing journey. We will create a strengths-based, person-centred plan together. Your individualized, holistic plan will support and empower you to heal, grow and live your life fully while working towards achieving your goals.
I am a guide, a teacher and a facilitator. It is my great honour and blessing to walk beside you with compassion, while supporting you and offering you the tools, skills and strategies to support you on your cancer healing journey.
-Amy
