The Spiritual Warrior Scholarship Program was created to honour the memory of one of its founding members, Dan Blasutti. The program was developed to encourage others to follow Dan's example when faced with a diagnosis of cancer. Rather than retreating from the community during his three-year journey with cancer, Dan chose to reach out and embrace the world around him. In doing so, he gained a new awareness of the richness of life and the strength of the human spirit.
Each year, the Spiritual Warrior Scholarship Awards recognize young Canadians who demonstrate qualities that best capture the spirit of Dan Blasutti ... creative, inspirational and community-minded. In 2015, four (4) awards were given to students planning to attend their first year at a post-secondary school. The awards are $2,000 each, and were available to individuals living, working, or attending secondary school in Waterloo Region, Upper Grand, and Wellington Catholic District School Boards.
Although Dan died in October 1995, before HopeSpring opened its doors to the public, his ideals and vision continue to guide HopeSpring's programming and services, and his essence lives on through the Spiritual Warrior Scholarship Awards.
Applications are now open for the 2016 Spiritual Warrior Scholarship for 3 $2,000 scholarships. Please apply by completing the application form online and providing copies of the required additional elements (detailed in the application form)
